The Importance of Praise and Prayer

2 Thessalonians 3:1&2 (ESV)–

Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may speed ahead and be honored, as happened among you, and that we may be delivered from wicked and evil men. For not all have faith.

It is a blessing to hear praise reports from those involved in spreading the truth of the gospel. These reports may come from those in our church, in our city, in our state, in our nation, or in various places around the world.

Learning gospel truth, being transformed by gospel truth, and sharing gospel truth with others, are responsibilities for every follower of Jesus. An associated desire is that as we share gospel truth, people will turn from sin and from selfishness, reaping the benefits of delight and satisfaction of heart. These are the fruits that come from walking with Jesus and His truth daily. Unfortunately the world, the flesh, and the devil react with disdain and opposition, to the principles and practices of Christ-centered gospel life and truth.

We must never settle for others or ourselves engaging in such gospel activities, without the blessing and protection of our Lord. This is why covering our gospel activities and the gospel activities of others with prayer is so important. Shining the light of gospel truth is ultimately the work of the Lord Jesus in us, for us, and through us. He alone gives spiritual life, and creates spiritual hunger in the hearts of men and women. He alone provides protection against the forces of darkness empowering our physical and spiritual enemies.

Jesus is our source of truth, and the faithful provider of protection. May God help every follower of Jesus to be attentive to the importance of praise and prayer flowing from us and from others!
